Akai X-150D

Studio Sound

Studio Sound, June 1968

Studio Sound's June 1968 price table, updated after that year's Budget purchase-tax rise, carries the entry "X150D ¼-track stereo £130 2s. 4d. new model" — filed under distributor Pullin Photographic (Rank Organization), who handled the rest of Akai's UK line too. £130 2s. 4d. is the tax-paid list price that recurs through the X-150D's UK dealer ads for years afterward; Studio Sound's own Audio Fair report a month earlier had quoted a pre-Budget price of £106.

The same issue reviews the cheaper 3000D, noting it employs "a similar mechanism to the X-150D, 1710W and M9" with a pressure-pad-free radial tape path — that review isn't mirrored here, but is readable at the source.
