Hi-Fi Year Book 1970

The 1970 Hi-Fi Year Book's Tape Units section carries Akai's full line under distributor Pullin Photographic (Rank Organization). Its X-150D entry reads: "Stereo tape unit with pre-amplifiers. ¼-track... Crossfield head... Price: £103 19s. 7d. (plus £26 0s. 5d. PT)" — which comes to almost exactly the £130 list price quoted elsewhere in the period record. The same Akai block, running onto the facing page, lists the cheaper 4000D at £79 15s. 8d. plus £19 19s. 4d. PT.

By the following year's edition the X-150D is gone from the Akai block and the 4000D remains — consistent with, though not itself proof of, the 4000D taking over the entry-level slot.
